Comparison is the Thief of Joy
“Why are they so much more successful than me?”
Comparing yourself to others is a killer.
If we’re busy comparing our lives to someone else’s, that’s less time to focus on our lives. We can’t allow that to happen.
Social media has accelerated this problem to massive proportions. Most people who post on social media are posting their every win. It’s easy to get caught up in your head after seeing that person you went to college with living an amazing life — or so you think.
People post — beautiful homes, dream vacations, perfect families — but rarely their struggles. It’s easy to think, What are they doing that I’m not? But remember: the same people you envy have their own unseen battles. They just don’t share them.
The Problem With Social Media
I’m convinced people who post on social media ask themselves this question:
What will get me the most likes?
What will get them the most likes is not the one where they open up about an issue they’re having. Sometimes it is, but it’s rare. Instead, we see this:
- An ocean view from a luxury resort.
- A picture-perfect wedding day.
- A big job promotion.
